Reflective Practice / Walleater Vinyl Packaging Design

I play guitar in a band called Walleater. We recently recorded some tracks and they've been released on 7" vinyl since. I was tasked with designing the sleeve and all visuals for the release which was a really fun and interesting experience.

I tried to move away from the clean, minimal aesthetic I usually strive for in my studio briefs - the band's music simply doesn't fit with it - and so I opted instead for a hand rendered (almost scribbled) pencil and crayon aesthetic.

There are echoes of the Secret 7 brief of course, however I found creating an aesthetic for my own band even more challenging, possibly due to the knowledge that we'd have to live with these records for the coming months and face the challenge of selling 300 copies!

It's fantastic to see a piece of design which took a long while and plenty of deliberation over finally printed in the flesh and especially pressed onto vinyl - a medium I love to champion and one that is back on the rise quite rapidly.

Here is a tape release we put out (50 Copies) late last year. Rob -  singer/guitarist in the band - designed this release and I took aspects onward into the 7" release, notably the predominantly black colour scheme and the hand rendered type throughout.
