OUGD602 / PPP3 / Plusnet Brief and Peter Barber Workshop

Had a fantastic day today working with sign-writer / painter Peter Barber on an exciting brief for the Northern broadband company Plusnet.

Plusnet came in and briefed us on them as a brand, their values and tone of voice and then on the task that they are setting us:

We are to produce a design for a large piece of wall next to their Leeds office, then pitch via video link and finally help paint the finished design (whether it's ours or not)!

It's a brilliant brief, a chance to work at huge scale and in a challenging environment.

Other than that, it was interesting to hear about the work of a hugely talented painter who will be incredible to work with. Its nice to hear about work outside of graphic design and working at huge scale really appeals to me.

Pete also showed us a traditional technique called Pouncing that allows huge scale work to be made possible and includes small dots and chalk.

In addition, there's the opportunity to help Pete with a huge project down near the new John Lewis in town. An old building frontage needs painting and he's looking for students to help out.

All in all a really good day and one that I was really keen to push for and move other things aside for.

All further imagery and design for this project will be on my Design Practice blog.
