OUGD602 / PPP3 / Presentation and Reflection

Had my ppp presentation today with  group of about 12 other students from the course. As usual, lovely to see where other people are at and compare to my practice and whether I've been keeping up!

Below are the slides from the presentation, which I kept quite sparse and then talked through accompanying notes. I've typed the notes up around the appropriate slides below.

Important to know your limitations!

More important to recognise your strengths and individual skills. This year / last 6 months have been key for me in terms of discovering my place within our practice.

Above, two projects showing idea generation and the journey. The Kissing Spine is a paste board website attemptin to convey the personality of a musical project that doesn't produce music.

Ode to Beige is a springboard for work bsed around making Beige exciting. I thought of the project in the shower; it shows a spontaneous way of working.

Above, why I chose design as a career path... I love the freedom and possibility of changing thought processes & conventions.

The following work shows the power of research and the benefits and excitement that come from learning a new process!

Above is a collaborative project with Rory that was a thorough process. The visuals only came to be one the concept was properly settled on and then the images were sourced. It was a nicely formed collab.

Eike is an inspiration for his human-ness, willingness to make mistakes and just do what comes into his mind. His work really does fall into the category of fine art and spontaneity that I really resonate with.

Again with Steve Hockett from Manchester who just pastes his mind onto the internet.

Both of those examples link nicely to seeing Sagmeister's Happy Show in Vienna this year, which was HUGE, funny and pushed the boundaries of what you'd expect from a designer.

I enjoyed DR ME's day spent with us early in the year and have followed their collage projects for a while! They work in the same spontaneous way as the above and produce vital work!

So after talking about studios I admire I went through the courting process and how I cleaned up my brand in order to appear employable or at least worthy of a few weeks at a place!
