I looked into CargoCollective and SquareSpace. After careful consideration, I was taken in by SquareSpace's competitive student pricing and huge array of quality themes to use as a base for a website while allowing extensive customisation.
This is the aesthetic I've chosen to begin with, wanting a very stripped back approach - using the page simply as an easily navigable collection of my best pieces of work.
Above is the page which appears when a collection is clicked. I'm not entirely pleased with the fact the images have to be scrolled down, I'd prefer a click along carousel kind of collection.
SquareSpace gives you a personalised domain name, I could have had alex-finney.com however, a friend mentioned .me as a url and I really liked the look of it ( alex-finney.me ) it somehow seems friendly and inviting!
I bought the domain name off GoDaddy (cheesy, I know) and then transferred it over to SquareSpace. It was a complicated process but I want to do this whole project well and keep it going indefinitely.
I've added an 'About' and 'Contact' so there's somewhere to write something about me and a place to put links to my blog, twitter, email etc...
