We met up again today after a really positive meeting last time around - but it seemed that our idea had been muddled over the time spent apart and so we spent the majority of today discussing the definitive direction in which we actually want to take the business.
We struggled to nail down the USP of our company - I was under the impression that our whole defining factor was that we started our design process with our hands and that this followed into as much of the design as possible.
Anyway, we decided that our output would be largely print based matter - ruling out web - which suits us all but doesn't separate us from the competition at all except in the fact we can't make websites.
We all prepared completely different approaches to the manifesto's which was good. In hindsight mine reads far too colloquially and verges on cheesy with it's questions but it does hit on a friendliness which I think is a must for an about page on a website. Alec's attempt was slightly too long but hit on some key points which definitely need to be in the manifesto - namely that we use traditional handmade methods in order to progress, not look back.
Elliot produced some brilliant work for the logo and branding, using simple different colour squares to convey the screen - printing aspect of the business. He'd used a solid capital sans serif typeface which looked great but I asked whether or not a hand written type would suit the ethos of the studio more aptly.
We're to go away this weekend and work on a more refined version of both the manifesto and branding.
