PPP has been a really valuable part of the course this year. I've used it in order to keep up with practitioners and agencies and John has been really helpful throughout the year, particularly in Taking Care of Business.
Taking Care of Business was undoubtedly the most helpful aspect of the module. It was tough working as a group of 5 but we pulled through in the end and our final presentation and outcome for Fresh Prints was one of the strongest collaborations I've been a part of this year.
It was really useful to see potential start up costs and whether it is physically possible to start up straight out of university.
Self Branding pushed me to form my own website which has been a real springboard and constantly encouraged me to photograph my work to a higher standard - and produce better work! It's great to have a full controllable online presence and somewhere professional to point people in the direction of if you don't have a portfolio at hand.
My self branding has also improved drastically when looking back at last years horror show. It's now more cohesive and in keeping with my general aesthetic - I guess it becomes easier once you work out where your practice is heading and how you go about your work.
I do feel that I'm slowly working out what kind of designer I am - I certainly like using handwritten elements throughout my work and I stringently try and avoid trendy aesthetic flourishes so I'd say I'm quite traditional in that sense. My working method still remains quite sporadic and I believe in flashes of inspiration but as I mention in my presentation - inspiration arrives more often if you're better read and soak more things in.
